(Can people with joint pains and gout eat mung beans?)

This is not true kahit gout pa ang rayuma,” ani [Dr.] Zamora-Racaza.    (“The answer is no. It is not really forbidden and the poor mung bean is always blamed. ‘Doc, I ate mung beans,’ and they automatically attribute the mung beans as cause of joint pains. This is not true even if it is gout,” according to [Dr.] Zamora-Racaza.)

(Gout arthritis is caused by high uric acid that may be obtained from foods high in purine, explained by rheumatologist Ester Gonzales-Pensergae. However, mung beans do not have very high purine content.)

(Maybe mung beans have been mistaken as the are usually eaten together with beer, small fishes, deep fried pork skin, which have high purine content, added by Zamora-Racaza.)

(The belief that vegetables like mung beans, okra, string beans and tomatoes can cause gout is wrong. These plants have vegetable protein that is good for the body. Vegetable protein is more easily expelled from the body than animal meat.)

(Avoid animal meat and innards if you have gout.)
